A home battery stores up a supply of clean, usable energy for your home. It can take power from a generation source – such as PV solar, wind, or hydro – or from the grid using off-peak overnight tariffs. This is a great way to capture energy and use it at a time that is convenient for you. These can be used in conjunction with Solar PV, or without where you can charge overnight on cheap rate tariffs. In the process, it allows you to save up to 85% on your energy bills.

Battery Storage FAQS
The system stores electricity in batteries as DC voltage, like a simple AA battery (only much bigger!), then coverts it to the AC voltage we need in our homes. When you need to draw on it, it will work in whatever way works for you and your family, but should ideally be used to save you using power at more expensive times and be there as a back up in times of power cuts.
Our dependence on electricity is increasing year on year, with the obvious need to move away from fossil fuels. We will all soon be heating our homes and hot water as well as fuelling our vehicles with electricity – this should mean that prices for electricity reduce as the systems grow, but there will always be a more expensive time of day to use power as the smart metering revolution expands. But if you have home battery storage, you can use this power that you have stored and potentially generated with your own solar PV system and then top the batteries up at night when the power from utility companies is at it lowest.
The cost varies on the type of system that works for your needs. There are different sizes and types of storage and many manufacturers to consider – systems start at circa £4000 and can cost in excess of £12000, but a good system installed for a 3 bed family home will cost around £5000 + VAT
This depends on where the system is being fitted and how you use the power. Domestic households generally have systems fitted that store between 5 and 10 kWh of power, which is enough to run your home with the critical circuits chosen for anywhere between 4 and 10 hours, perhaps more depending on what you choose to use
Absolutely not. Whilst the above is the best scenario, you can store energy taken from the grid in your system, if you choose the right tariff. You can charge the batteries when power is cheap (generally 2AM-6AM) and leave it there until the power is expensive (most commonly 5PM-8PM) and then use the power from the batteries during that time.
