Stanwell, Middlesex

Project Value £1,100,000

Project and Scope of Work

Stanwell bedsits is a 1970’s-built community of 195 residential dwellings located within seven low-rise blocks of flats close to Heathrow Airport in Stanwell, TW19, West London.

We were appointed as the Principal Contractor under a competitive tender during the Covid-19 pandemic to deliver engineering services and associated temporary and builders works to replace and upgrade the domestic hot water and space heating plant as one phased programme throughout the seven buildings.

Works briefly included the supply, installation and commissioning of 14-Valliant 120kW boilers (2 per block), complete with new unvented domestic hot water cylinders, distribution pipework, BMS and electrical upgrades.

Project Delivery

Project delivery followed a detailed preconstruction phase alongside the consultants Silver Energy Management Services and the client’s contract administration teams, for CDM planning, site waste management, site logistics, evacuation and welfare, traffic management and risk management prior to site setup. Materials were located within a secure container on site, with weekly deliveries for pipework and just in time deliveries instructed for boilers and other mechanical plant coordinated with the programme for each block.

Each project required scaffolding to be designed by our nominated scaffolding subcontractors complete with a hoist and platform to assist the movement of materials and redundant plant to/from the confined space rooftop plantrooms. Roof protection and temporary handrails were also fitted complete with an enclosure to house a temporary hot water system supplying hot water for residents. Temporary electric heaters issued to residents also provided comfort during the cooler evenings.

In a word, No.

We can fit panels on to a roof or roof’s that face SE, SW or have a East and West split, for example if your garden is North or South facing, but the roof of your house faces to either side we would install panels on both sides of the roof. Whilst the best results do come from a South facing roof, we can achieve in exces of 80% of a South facing yield by fitting to other orientations.

Solar Panels can be fitted to your flat or sloping roof or in your garden. We fit high output panels to maximise the generation per square metre of roof you have available meaning we can achieve over 2kW of power from a small 6 panel system, most properties have the roof capacity for at least 6 panels, and many have considerably more capabilities for power generation (especially bungalows).

Yes, Solar Panels work in all daylight conditions and actually work better in very bright but chilly conditions. They can actually lessen production by a small amount if the temperature is too hot.

We would be able recommend a range of quality panels suited to your individual needs, based on output, budget, availability and how they will look on your property.

All of the panels we use will come with a minimum warranty of 20-25 years as do most panels, but not all 20 year warranties are the same. Some will only guarantee that they will work for 20 years, whereas the panels we install will also warranty high levels of output for that period too. Whilst you do not have to buy the most expensive panels to get a good warranty, the cheapest is seldom the best.

Solar systems have been installed across the world for may years, as we have mentioned above the panels last for a very long time and generally speaking the only other part that will need replacing in time is the inverter. These come with a range of warranties from 5-10 years as standard, but increasing the warranty to 20 years is often very inexpensive and can be extended in some cases for as little as £150.

This can vary with the type and size of installation, but on a general note, our team would complete both the roof works and the internal wiring in a day. The scaffold will usually go up the day before and potentially stay up for a few days whilst we ensure everything is working as we would expect, but from day 1 you will be generating energy.
